David Jolly argued that there was an opportunity for Democrats to capitalize on voter displeasure with the high cost of living and with Republican policies.

Special elections to fill vacancies are being held June 10 in Florida Senate District 19, Florida House District 32.

If nominated, Jolly will have a long road to the Governor’s mansion. Republicans have more than 1 million more registered voters than Democrats, and that gap continues to grow.

Vacancies at all levels of elected office have kept Florida Elections Supervisors busy this year. But both chambers of the Legislature appear poised to reimburse costs of Special Elections to the tune of $2.5 million.

Several state and federal lawmakers, along with political allies, have switched their party affiliation in recent months.

The SPLC is working with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to reform how Florida manages elections during emergency times.

A second reading on the proposed ordinance for control of GRU is scheduled for a special meeting on June 12 at 1 p.m.
