President Trump hosted United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House on Thursday for discussions focused on the Russia-Ukraine war.

The war in Ukraine will be a focal point of the meeting between the US president and UK prime minister in Washington later.

Trump made the comments at the start of a White House meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer where Starmer was expected to make his case to the Republican president that American leadership would be critical to maintain the peace in Ukraine should the three-year war end.

The pair later took questions during a joint news conference where they fielded additional questions on peace between Ukraine and Russia among other topics.

Trump expressed confidence Russian President Vladimir Putin won't press to restart the war if a truce can be reached. "I think he'll keep his word."
