On a dark night, at the peak of the shower at around 2 a.m. (for all time zones), "you can often catch 50 or more meteors per hour," EarthSky.org stated. "During an optimum night for the Geminids, it’s possible to see 120 meteors – or more – per hour." NASA states that the speed of the meteors are 79,000 mph, or 22 miles per second.

According to Earthsky.org, "t he bold, white, bright Geminids give us one of the Northern Hemisphere’s best showers," that can be watched all night long. The best time to watch the Geminids is from dusk, starting around 5pm, and continuing until dawn the following morning.

Photographers have managed to capture stunning displays of the Geminid meteor shower, which lit up the night sky across parts of England. The celestial spectacle, which returns every December and is one of the last of the year’s major meteor showers, was visible in the early hours of Saturday morning.
