On a dark night, at the peak of the shower at around 2 a.m. (for all time zones), "you can often catch 50 or more meteors per hour," EarthSky.org stated. "During an optimum night for the Geminids, it’s possible to see 120 meteors – or more – per hour." NASA states that the speed of the meteors are 79,000 mph, or 22 miles per second.

The Geminid meteor shower is expected to peak overnight on Friday and Saturday nights, according to EarthSky.org. But the days before and after the peak can also offer views of shooting stars.

According to Earthsky.org, "t he bold, white, bright Geminids give us one of the Northern Hemisphere’s best showers," that can be watched all night long. The best time to watch the Geminids is from dusk, starting around 5pm, and continuing until dawn the following morning.
