The Board of Local and Regional Jails (BOLRJ) found that the Richmond City Jail consistently failed to adhere to the state standards that govern the supervision of inmates.
The jail is currently being sued by the families of several men who died at the jail in 2022 and 2023. It is also under a corrective action plan mandated by the agency that oversees Virginia jails.
