If you, like many other players, decided to dive into Monster Hunter Wilds over its beta period, you might have been left feeling a little underwhelmed by certain weapons, and now, thanks to the power of math, it's been proven that there's a reason why.

Last night, Capcom opened the gates to the Monster Hunter Wilds beta on Steam, letting PC players get a preview of the next installment in giant lizard slaying. There was no shortage of eager hunters waiting for their chance: According to SteamDB, just an hour after unlocking on PC, the Wilds beta already had over 460,000 concurrent players.

Monster Hunter Wilds fans rejoice; we're getting a massive beta test on all platforms soon. Announced today during a special livestream, Capcom announced a cross-play test coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam next week - and it'll support cross-play between all platforms.

The first phase of the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta test begins on October 29 and ends on Halloween (October 31). After that, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and regular PS5 users can check out the game between November 1 to November 4.

It bodes really well for Capcom that interest - at least on PC - in the sequel to its most successful game is this high months from launch.

After many more hours and some welcome multiplayer hunts in the PC Monster Hunter Wilds beta, I stand by my altogether positive impressions from the early PS5 beta. The game is looking good, and I don't really know what to do with myself now that the beta is gone.

Monster Hunter Wilds just had its beta tests, and by the looks of it, the game still needs a lot of work before its launch early next year.
