A fire broke out Tuesday night in the hills above Altadena near Eaton Canyon, prompting a response from firefighters. Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said the fire is at 20 acres. The fire broke out in the foothills at around 6:28 p.m. but she did not know exact location at the time. Pasadena fire officials are on the scene.

The Eaton fire was reported at 6:23 p.m., near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in the Eaton Canyon area, according to Cal Fire. The Angeles National Forest said on X the fire had reached more than 200 acres by 7:12 p.m. with evacuations underway.

Pasadena Fire Department crews say that significant wind in the area is causing the flames to act erratically and spread quickly. Multiple structures were threatened, according to city spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
