Here’s where mortgage rates could be headed in 2025
The National Association of Realtors predicts mortgage rates will be around 6 percent in 2025. Meanwhile, Redfin predicts mortgage rates will remain in the high-6 percent range throughout 2025, with the weekly average rate fluctuating throughout the year but averaging around 6.8 percent.
Mortgage Rates Holding Below Notable Threshold
Rates on 15-year mortgages dipped 2 basis points Tuesday for a new average of 6.18%. Like its 30-year sibling, the 15-year average fell to a two-year low in September, plunging under the 5% mark to 4.97%. Though today's 15-year average is elevated, it remains significantly below October 2023's historic 7.08% reading—a high since 2000.
