Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is sidelined for Friday night’s NBA Cup game against the Brooklyn Nets due to what the team described as left knee injury maintenance.

Embiid missed the entire preseason and first six games of this regular season with left knee injury management before serving a three-game league suspension. He made his season debut against the New York Knicks on Nov. 12 only to miss the following night’s game due to managing the knee.

Embiid, who was ruled out for Friday’s game vs. Brooklyn due to left knee injury management, is dealing with swelling in that left knee, the team announced this evening ( Twitter link ). Upon consultation with their medical staff, the Sixers have decided Embiid will also sit out Sunday’s matchup with the Clippers.

Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey addressed “the elephant in the room” during a team meeting after Philadelphia’s fourth straight loss to the Heat on Monday, according to ESPN. Maxey reportedly called out 76ers franchise face Joel Embiid over being late “for everything” and about how his time management effects his teammates and the coaching staff.
