Chargers training camp report, Day 1
Digest more
The Los Angeles Chargers have some really interesting things coming out of training camp already across the offensive line. There, as Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh promised, Bradley Bozeman and former first-round pick Zion Johnson continue to trade reps at left guard and center.
Per NFL Media, Harris has ended his holdout and officially signed his rookie contract. He was one of several second-round picks, including Mike Green and Shemar Turner, to sign their rookie deals on Thursday, and the Chargers can thank the San Francisco 49ers for that.
Hortiz struck gold in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting two corners — Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart — who were important contributors as rookies. Hart and Still return and will be firmly in the mix for starting spots. Hart is an outside corner. Still can play outside and nickel.
Instead, the honor has gone to Jalen Reagor, who caught the first touchdown of camp from Justin Herbert and has been getting praise from all, including the franchise quarterback himself.
Henley perfectly read Justin Herbert's eyes to step in front of a pass intended for Ladd McConkey as the linebacker snagged the pick and raced the other way. That play itself was impressive, but what was extra special is what Henley did a few minutes before during a water break.
Los Angeles overhauled its running-back depth chart during the offseason by letting its top two rushers from 2024, J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, leave, signing Harris as a free agent and drafting North Carolina ball-carrier Omarion Hampton in the first round on April 24.
The Los Angeles Chargers are experimenting with Zion Johnson at center, and he's had some issues early in training camp with the new role.
