NEW YORK — For the briefest of moments, Breanna Stewart put her hands on her head. Then she slapped them on her legs, bowed her head and gave a half-hearted high five to a New York Liberty teammate.

While you can’t blame a loss on a missed bucket, Stewart hitting that free throw more than likely wins the game for the Liberty in regulation. Her reaction after missing the second free throw was really sad to watch, as she looked devastated to see such a typically automatic basket slip through her grasp.

Breanna Stewart missed a layup to complete a devastating New York Liberty loss to the Minnesota Lynx in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, drawing comparisons to Knicks great Patrick Ewing in the process.

Stewart finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in a monster all-around performance, as the Liberty beat the Aces, 76-62, to get revenge and advance to the Finals for a second consecutive season.

Stewart struggled in the championship round lats year, averaging only 16.3 points per game on 36.2% shooting from the field.
