Our tour time isn’t until 6.30pm, I’m hoping that we will be able to get a butterbeer and look in the gift shop at this time?

There is a food hall prior to the tour but no butter beer until you’re done with the first half of the tour. Can you get in earlier? 6:30 will barely give you enough time.
I have been here quite a few times already but we’re visiting again in December. I can’t remember if it’s one way only or if you can go back and forth? For example if we were to go straight to the food area near the outside section are we then able to start at the beginning?

There is a huge eating area where you can buy hot and cold food before you enter the tour itself, plus the Chocolate Frog Cafe for all those delicious magical cakes. Half way through the tour is the Backlot area where you can also purchase burger, chips, etc Butter beer and butter beer ice cream. You can go back to the into the first part of the tour to catch up with anything you have missed.
