A couple things: first, they don't accept reservations until about May 15th; also, there was a story I read somewhere (either in the Oregonian newspaper online (try oregonlive online) or maybe somewhere in park service news) that beginning in 2019 the park service was transferring ownership of the Volcano Cruise on Crater Lake to a new, privately-run company, as opposed to the current operators there. Again, I can't find that link but I know what I read and was glad we were taking the trip when we did...also, if you are booking a room at Crater Lake Lodge, and supply them with your email address, they will email you (as they did us), with notice that bookings for the Volcano Cruise had begun...(this was on May 13th, two days before the tix went on sale). Also, I noticed you were going there in August...to manage expectations, Crater Lake has seen smoke from fires every year for the past three years, in August, almost always obscuring the lake view and, occasionally, resulting in cancellation of the boat tour(s). This is specifically why we wanted to arrive in July, rather than in August and sure enough, the incidence of smoke occurred yet again this past August...hope some or all of this is helpful.
