This worked out great, we had a wonderful time! Super easy to transport and find all of the locations they explain while picking up. Full review by shawnkofoed

Beautiful waterfall! Must-see! Only accessible by water. You have to rent a kayak, paddle the river for about 45 min, then beach the kayak (take your valuables with you) and hike about 20 minutes … Full review by RickSch-US

We are considering this kayak/hike outing with our kids, aged 12, 10 and 8. All of them are pretty athletic and play sports, but I'm wondering how difficult it will be for them. Has anyone taken kids and how did it work out for you?

We did this hike yesterday after we rented paddle boards. The owner of the paddle board company suggested we paddle up the river to the trailhead on a self guided tour. Our kids are older than yours (16, 14) but I wouldn't say our daughter is overly athletic and we managed the 2 mile trip up the river without a problem. Kayaking should be easier? The difficult part was definitely the hike. We were told it's about a mile but it took us almost 1&1/2 hr to get to the waterfall. It was well worth it but lots of mud (wear sturdy shoes that you won't care if they are soaked and muddy at the end of the day) and very slippery at times. You will also have to walk across several streams. Bring a pair of dry shoes to change into for your ride home. Look for a walking stick along the path, it will definitely come in handy. The waterfall is beautiful and well worth the adventure. Don't forget to save energy for the hike and kayak back :)
I have never canoed or kayaked. I can swim, but what if the boat turns over? How deep is the water? Is the hike up hill or mostly level? How slippery is the trail? Thanks

No need to know how to kayak, it is very easy and straight forward. Hike is minimally challenging. All hiking in Kauai can be slippery due to the mud and rain, so just take your time!
How long did it take you to row each way and also how long did it take you to hike each way? Thanks.

Depends where you row from. We used kayak kauai because we wanted no guides and a day rental to go as we please. It was about 45 min or so depending on if you row together go slow and take turns. The hike was id say about 30 minutes or so. Muddy in parts and you cross a spot via rope that has a strong current. But yes worth the rowing and hiking. Go early before trail gets crowded
