Over the Intracoastal waterway and under Spanish moss-draped grand oaks you have arrived in a timeless place, a haven for all God’s creatures, a hidden fountain of youth called Edisto Island. Our tiny paradise with its pristine beaches has been virtually untouched by commercialization and is one of the last undeveloped islands on the Atlantic coast. Edistonians cherish their cultural heritage which dates back to 1570 when Spanish missionaries attempted to convert the Edistow Indians. The golden era began in 1790 and lasted until the Civil War when plantation owners amassed huge fortunes from the highly prized, long staple cotton. The Sea Cloud house name derives from the 19th century marriage between and contraction of the Seabrook and Mc Cloud family names. The newlyweds chose the name for their antebellum mansion sited upon a cotton plantation here on Edisto Island. Your Sea Cloud was built in 1995 by Karin and Al Gleaton (Columbia, SC) and R.H. Belser, III (Charleston, SC).
