I guess two years too late for an answer maybe better than never!? Yes, you can get a taxi pretty much any day of the year. There is no public transport up there. You can hire quad bikes or mopeds in town and drive under your own steam which is much nicer. The road up there is quiet and the smell of the pine forest is amazing. It's almost impossible to get lost as there is only one road round the edge of that island with a better road through the middle.
