The Monticello Railway Museum is one of the best places to visit in Illinois period. Their collection is amazing. The pieces are incredibly restored. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable… Full review by kwsonfire

Yes, it is definitely for a family outing.On Railroad days Sat.September 15 and Sunday September 16,2018 .All of the trains are out on a schedule that you can board anytime. Your ticket is good for all day. There are some separate rides for kids. My favorite train is the 401 Steam engine. You can ride in the Caboose and pretty much anywhere on the trains. There is a festival downtown Monticello so you can get off at Wabash Station ,go eat, see car show etc. then get back on any train going back to Nelson's Crossing. Fun day for the whole family!!! Come on down! I volunteer there now!!!
