To say this place is Wheelchair friendly is absolutely nuts There is no way that a person over about 15 Kgs could be man handled along the track, thick gravel and many hills. Pretty long way too. Full review by chuckrdickey

I just went to Hokitika gorge again the day after heavy rain to find answer myself. Today is a sunny day but the color of the river still grey but milkier than yesterday and isn’t as swift as yesterday. It seem getting better but not blue at all. I think it might take 1-3 days to recover from grey to blue if the weather is great (not raining). Anyway from my research the vibrant, milky turquoise color of the water here is due to the fact it is glacial fed and full of 'rock flour’ not a reflecting from the sky. The color of the river can effected by the high flow rate of the water.
